研修を終えた中学３年生が感想を英語で書いてくれました。日本語訳も下にあります。

We had a fulfilling experience during our two-week overseas training program. We enjoyed the English classes at the University of California Santa Barbara. It was a fresh experience for all of us.

The UCSB campus is large and rich with nature. We enjoyed walking to the different classrooms. We had small group lessons so it was easy to catch what the teachers said. In addition, the group work was always fun because they were composed of different members. Therefore, I was able to learn new things about my friends. When I asked questions or did an interview, I was very embarrassed at first, to say what I thought in English. However, I was very pleased that I could speak English with a louder voice.

We visited the Cate School where I presented "Life Events in Japan". The students from Cate School introduced life events from different countries. At the end, we experienced hitting a Piñata, a fun activity from Mexico. When we broke the Piñata, sweets fell out from the inside and we were very surprised. We all have good memories with the students at Cate School.

In one experience we went to a restaurant without teachers. At first, I was puzzled about how to do order in English. Then, we figured out how to order and pay for our own meal.

In addition, we watched the world-famous musical, "Aladdin". We had watched the same one for an art appreciation class in the 7th grade. The special effects were great, especially using fire on stage. Of course, it was all in English, but I could still catch some of the lines. At the end, the audience gave a standing ovation and I felt that we were all united. I had a wonderful time with my friends, teachers, and I will never forget this experience.

On the last day at UCSB when I got a wonderful certificate from the teachers, I felt the certificate was the result of my hard work of studying English for three years at Yakumo. Our time in America passed by so quickly.

During the two weeks, I enjoyed communicating in English. I had been waiting for this experience for three years. It is one of the best experiences in my life. We could take part in this irreplaceable experience because we had support from many people. I would like to thank Yakumo teachers, guides, UCSB teachers, bus drivers, and our parents for supporting us.

私達は２週間のアメリカ海外研修で充実したプログラムを体験しました。

UCSBの授業では毎回違う教室（施設）まで広大で自然豊かなキャンパス内を歩く事から始まる、とても新鮮な経験でした。少人数のクラスなので先生と私達の距離も近く、ネイティブの発音が聞き取り易い環境でした。また、グループワークはいつも違う組合せで友達の新たな一面を知る事が出来ました。質問やインタビューをする時は言いたい事を英語で話す事が初めはとても恥ずかしかったのですが、徐々に大きな声で積極的に会話する事が出来てとても嬉しかったです。

また私は、プレゼンテーションでケイトスクールの皆さんに「日本の年齢行事」を紹介しました。ケイトスクールの生徒の皆さんも色々な国の年齡行事を紹介して下さり、その中にあったメキシコの年齢行事のピニャータを最後に体験させて下さいました。ピニャータを割ると中からお菓子が飛び出し、とても驚きましたが楽しかったです。短い時間でしたが、ケイトスクールの皆さんと良い思い出が作れました。

レストラン体験では、戸惑いながらも海外ならではの注文や支払いの慣習を体験出来て良かったです。

さらに、世界的に有名なミュージカル「アラジン」を鑑賞しました。中学１年の芸術鑑賞と同じ演目でしたが舞台上で火を使うなどの独自の演出は圧巻でした。セリフは所々ですが、意味を聞き取ることが出来ました。最後は劇場が一体となったスタンディングオベーション、忘れられない素晴らしい時間を友達や先生と過ごしました。

USCBの授業の最終日に立派な証書をクラスの担当の先生から一人一人に手渡しで頂いた時、中学３年間で学んだ学習の成果だと思いました。本当にアメリカ滞在はあっという間でした。この2週間で私は英語を使うコミュニケーションの楽しさを学びました。

３年間楽しみにしていたアメリカ海外研修は夢の様な時間でした。この様なかけがえの無い経験が出来たのは多くの人の支えがあったからです。八雲学園の先生方、ガイドさん、UCSBの先生、バスの運転手さん、そして両親に感謝します。
